Appellate

Appellate practice is a distinct and specialized area of law. When a party is aggrieved by the decision of a lower court or administrative body, often there is a right to appeal the lower court’s decision to a higher court, or the decision of an administrative body to the district court. The appellate process focuses on recognition and preservation of errors committed by a lower tribunal for presentation and argument to a higher court of review through the avenues of brief writing, motion and writ practice, and oral argument.

Riggs Abney has a highly qualified and widely respected appellate practice section in all areas of civil, administrative, and criminal appeals. Our appellate lawyers have years of experience in handling appeals in both state and federal courts. Many of the firm’s lawyers are admitted to practice before the highest courts in Oklahoma as well as being admitted to the bar of a number of Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal and to the bar of the United States Supreme Court. As our federal appellate practice continues to expand, our list of admissions in the various Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal grows as well.

Not only does our appellate practice section handle appeals in cases tried by our Firm, it also handles numerous appeals tried by other attorneys and law firms. Our lawyers apply their skills in navigating through the appeals process while working closely with trial counsel to ensure the best possible service to the client.
